Ice on the pipes or the unit
Ice means the coil got too cold, usually from low airflow.
Safety first: turn the power off before touching your A/C. Never open the electrical panel cover or the inside of the outdoor unit. If you smell burning, see sparks, or a breaker keeps tripping, turn it off and call us.
Steps
- Set the thermostat to Off and the fan to On. This thaws the ice faster.
- Put towels down to catch the melting water.
- Replace the filter if it's dirty.
- Open the vents and move furniture or curtains blocking them. Keep most vents open, even in rooms you don't use.
- When all the ice is gone, turn cooling back on.
Never chip the ice off. You can puncture the coil.
Call us if: It freezes up again. That usually means low refrigerant or a fan problem, which needs a technician. (305) 842-0295
